Climate
The 2023 growing season started out with wet, rainy winter weather that provided abundant groundwater resources in the vineyards. Bud break occurred at the end of March, slightly later compared to 2022. The second half of April brought lower than average temperatures resulting in a delay in flowering of about ten days, which took place mid-May. The following months, on the other hand, were defined by hot, dry conditions that allowed the grapes to partially catch up to a normal pace and begin an optimal ripening phase. At harvest time, the berries were perfectly whole and healthy with a good balance between sugar concentration levels and acidity also due to excellent day/night temperature swings during the final weeks of August.
Fermentation and Aging
A portion of the harvested grapes were destemmed, crushed, and very gently pressed to obtain a lightly colored must. The other portion was destemmed and crushed and then left to macerate for several hours in stainless steel tanks to best extract varietal aromas from the skins. The resulting must was chilled to a temperature of 10 °C (50 °F) to favor natural clarification. After 48 hours, the wine was transferred into stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature that did not exceed 15 °C (59 °F). Giardino was aged in stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature of 10 °C (50 °F) to preserve aromatic compounds.
Tasting Notes
Giardino 2023 is salmon pink in color. An intriguing and pleasant nose that offers floral and fruity notes of pink grapefruits, wild strawberries, ripe apples, and dog rose. Its palate is soft, balanced with crisp freshness and a savory finish.
